Sammy H. Bogan
STAUNTON:
Sammy Herman Bogan, 85, husband of Lona Mae (Wimer) Bogan (now deceased) of 1842 Springhill Road passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Bogan was born July 20, 1926 in Hot Springs, a son of the late Harry Herman Bogan and Chloe (Grogg) Bogan Snyder.
Mr. Bogan was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon and elder and was retired from Columbia Gas after thirty-nine years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Sammy was an avid hunter and trout fisherman; he was a member of the Lockridge Hunt Club of which he had many fond memories and the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bogan was preceded in death by a sister, Irene (Bogan) Guyer Armstrong.
Mr. Bogan was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
On May 14, 1949, Mr. Bogan married his wife of sixty-three years, Mrs. Lona Mae (Wimer) Bogan. They have two daughters, Darlene J. Thomas and her husband Clyde W. and Donna J. Ham and her husband Robert B.; a grandson, Benjamin Samuel Ham and his wife Krista all of Staunton and a special cousin, Claudia Capps.
A double graveside service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 in Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor Jack B. Wilkers.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 in the Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Guyer, Gary Hinkle, Lee Kidd, Earl Hank Bragg, Stephen Hinton and Don Wagner.
Darlene and Donna thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the ER and third floor of Augusta Health for the comfort and care provided for their father.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
