Ruth Gwendolyn (Bryant) Wood, 85, widow of Thomas Nelson Wood, of Plaza Apts. Drive passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her two daughters and granddaughter.
Mrs. Wood was born December 12, 1928 in Tye River, a daughter of the late Harry Lee and Gladys (Clements) Bryant.
Ruth was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday school class. She served on the church food committee and Meals on Wheels. Ruth enjoyed music and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by two brothers; Gene Bryant and Harold Bryant and two sisters; Anita Ferrell and Eleanor Powell.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda (Wood) Lickliter and husband Pete of Staunton and Kathy (Wood) Carden and husband Mike of Powhatan; a sister, Alice (Bryant) Benarick of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Michelle (Lickliter) Clark and husband David of Roanoke and Thomas Wolfe of Herndon and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A private burial will be conducted at Jonesboro Baptist Church Cemetery in Roseland, Virginia.
A Memorial service is tentatively scheduled for January 11, 2014 at Memorial Baptist Church.
