Ruth Marie (Riddle) Fitzgerald-Thomas, 82, of 2009 White Bridge Road, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at her residence with her family by her side.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Augusta County on June 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Ernest Cleveland and Naomi Louise (Mooneyham) Riddle.

Ruth was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and a member of the churchs Prayer Shaw Group she was retired from Augusta Health Hospital as a nurse; she enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was an avid baker. Ruths goal in life was caring for and putting others first.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her first husband, James Parks Jimmy Fitzgerald; her second husband, Harold Vernon Pat Thomas; and a son, David Landon Lanny Fitzgerald.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two sons, Michael P. Fitzgerald and wife Barbara of Lyndhurst, and Richard W. Fitzgerald and wife Debbie of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Linda L. Bowen and husband Buddy B. of Verona, and Suzi F. Hite and husband Gary of Waynesboro; two step-children, Gregory A. Thomas and wife Jennifer of Shenandoah, and Lois J. Smock and husband Sherman of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Melany Marie Bowen, Matthew Wayne Bowen, Marsha Lynne Bowen, Jason Landon Hite, and Amber Michele Hite; five step-grandchildren, Michael W. Reed and wife Maryann of Oak Harbor, WA, Paul D. Reed of Waynesboro, Debbie K. Berry and husband Kenny of Crimora, James H. Reed of Waynesboro, and Dania M. Monast of Waynesboro; eleven great-grandchildren; and four special friends, Bea Benson, Frieda Bisbee, Lorraine Mays, and Betty Milsap.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Crossroads Baptist Church by Revs. J.R. Johnson and Heath Spivey.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Active pallbearers will be Harry Brown, Randy Benson, Jerry Spotlow, Jim Bisbee, Mark Stroup, Fred Heisler, and Chris Guyer.
