Ruth Elizabeth (Beattie) Fitzgerald, 98, of Stonewall Circle, was born into Eternal Life, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born on February 27, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina, a daughter of the late John Fred Beattie and Winifred (Coleman) Beattie-Fravel.
Ruth was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and never wavered from her faith. She retired from Western State Hospital, as a Psychiatric Practical Nurse in 1986 and following retirement, she worked at Oak Hill Nursing Home. Ruth enjoyed traveling and made Mission Rosaries that were taken to Africa and Haiti. She will be remembered as a faith-filled and devoted Mother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Frances Anthony Fitzgerald; a son-in-law, Charles E. Wheeler; a grandson, Michael Wayne Wheeler; three brothers and one sister; and a special friend, Mary Rogers.
Survivors include a son, Fred W. Fitzgerald and his wife Nancy of Staunton; six daughters, Ruth Ann Wheeler of Verona, Therese Ronuckeo of Baltimore, MD, Rose Marie Weaver and her husband Mack of Fishersville, Dolores Jacinta Beathe and her husband William of Stuarts Draft, Mary Eileen Fitzgerald of Staunton and Windi Fitzgerald-Ford and her husband Dan of Waynesboro; a sister, Winifred (Beattie) Owens of Stafford, VA; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A Rosary Service will conducted at 6:30 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2018 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church by Father Joseph Wamala.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers Marvin Courtney, Mack Weaver, Chris Wheeler, Wyatt Wheeler, Thomas Bottenfield, and Jacob Dunford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Ford, William and Robert Beathe, Robert Dunford, David and Travis Bottenfield, and Brian Shifflett.
