Russell White Buchanan, 89, husband of Doris Esther (Ritchie) Buchanan, of Raphine, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Buchanan was born in Raphine, Virginia on February 5, 1937, a son of the late Guy Homer Buchanan, Sr. and Gertie May (Lotts) Buchanan.
Russell was a faithful member of Irish Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from Wilco Gasoline after many years as a truck driver. He found joy in the simple things in life, especially mowing his yard, cutting wood, and piddling around the house. He treasured time spent visiting with his family and was happiest surrounded by those he loved.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by two daughters, Melissa Ann Buchanan and Patty Buchanan; three brothers, George Buchanan, Charles Buchanan, and Guy Buchanan, Jr.; five sisters, Kitty Spencer, Estelle Fix, Peggy Morrison, Dorothy Patterson, and Polly Lunsford; and a granddaughter, Ashley Harris.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 63 years, are four sons, Timothy Buchanan of Monroe, VA, Tony Buchanan and his wife, Pam of Fairfield, Eric Buchanan of Spottswood, and Rusty Buchanan of FL; two daughters, Debbie Burns and her husband, Robby of Stanley and Sheila Kyger and her husband, Christopher of Steeles Tavern; a brother, James Franklin “Frank” Buchanan of Raphine; sixteen grandchildren, Tyechia, Cody, Anthony Chase, Jamie, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Christopher, Krissa, Angie, Danny, Chad, Jeremy, John Paul, Jeanie, and Joey; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Wayne Dickson and Drace Clevenger.
The family will receive friends following the service.
