Russell Thomas Brooks, 82, beloved husband of Cleta (Howdyshell) Brooks of 768 Howardsville Road passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Brooks was born in Augusta County on January 15, 1928, a son of the late Lacy Thomas and Ruth Estelle (Palmer) Brooks.
Russell was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and was a retired auto mechanic, working for various auto dealerships in Staunton and Augusta County. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed antique farm machinery and was a Jack of All Trades, a person who could do and work on anything.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Edward Brooks and David Calvin Brooks.
Surviving in addition to his wife to whom he married July 7, 1951, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Ann Weekley and her husband Buddy of Dayton and Linda Sue Brooks and Ken Clark; a very special grandson, John Lacy Farrish; a sister, Ruth Agnes Brooks, all of Staunton and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 8, 2010, 7 to 8:00 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Linda Sue Brooks, 186 Mill Lane, Staunton.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor JoAnn Bunn.
Burial will follow in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Jake Shuey, Garrett Irvine, Chris Fravel, Dennis Sweet, Joe Constantin and Danny Sawyers.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews attending the service.
