Ruby Ann (Germaine) Swinson, 79, widow of Herman Leroy Swinson of 183 Greenville School Road, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at her residence.
Mrs. Swinson was born on June 17, 1937 in Appleton, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Leo and Martha (Hautaufdesheide) Germaine.
After retiring from Phillip Morris in 1977, Ruby Swinson relocated with her husband, Toby Swinson, who worked with the Department of Corrections. After Toby\u0027s retirement, they moved to Greenville, Virginia in 1988.
Ruby was an active bowler for over 50 years. She enjoyed bowling with her daughters and granddaughters at the VA State Bowling Tournaments over the years. She also played softball, enjoyed canning, and knitting. In her last months, she took on a love for coloring; but more than anything, she loved spending time with family, going on beach vacations and playing cards. Her favorite card game was Canasta and she couldn\u0027t wait to have her grandson, Colton Swinson be her partner (They were hard to beat!). Ruby has touched many lives and was a mom/grandma to many.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Swinson was preceded in death by three brothers Leo, Frenchie, and Robert Germaine.
Surviving is a sister, Betsy Smith and husband Don of South Vienna OH; a brother, Sonny Germaine of San Diego; daughters, Debbie Frith and husband Buddy of Midlothian VA, Kathy Reynolds and Karen Blackwell of Vesuvius VA; daughter/granddaughter, Elizabeth Wade and husband Nathan of Greenville VA; sons, Russell Reynolds and wife Becky of Fortuna CA, Raymond Swinson of Winchester VA, Mike Swinson and wife Nixsa of Staunton VA, Steve Swinson and wife Jere of Richmond VA, and daughter, Joann Teal and husband Billy of Richmond VA; 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Dave Ball. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Following the service, everyone is invited to the Greenville United Methodist Church located at 126 Main Street, Greenville, VA for a time of food and fellowship at 4:30 p.m. We are asking that those who would like to make a family poster board of photos to share, please bring those to the gathering at the church.
Our family would like to thank the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for the care and compassion they brought during her last few months of life, especially Hospice Nurse Monique Mceniny; Hospice Aide, Christine Losh; and Social Worker, Kathy Anderson. Please accept our sincere "Thank you" for all the love and support during this difficult time.
