Roy Franklin "Buddy" Smiley, 77, of Broadhead School Road in Middlebrook, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Smiley was born in Middlebrook on November 9, 1944, a son of the late John Wilbur Smiley and Ethel (Smith) Smiley.

As a life-long farmer, having started at a very young age, he tended many farms in the area and his many gardens. In addition to farming, he served at the Augusta County Service Authority for many years, retiring in 2005.

Buddy was a quiet giver and supporter in his community. His greatest joy was sharing what he had grown or what his hands had rendered with others; whether it be a load of wood, bushel of potatoes or a visit with an armload of goodies. He listened and filled the needs of those around him. He was a good man.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smiley is preceded in death by five brothers, Hansford, Bob, Tom, Jim, and Joe and three sisters, Jean L. Hostetter, Mary Ann Smiley, and Judy Mae Smiley.

Surviving, is a sister, Ruby Barnett and husband, Jeff; nieces, Tammy Hostetter and Tiki Gibson, his faithful and loving caregivers with whom he made his home, Cindy Lemons, Maria Dzuba, Diahanna Redifer, and Sarah Barnett; nephew, Kirk Barnett; a number of great-nieces and nephews and many special friends including, Curtis Riley, Eric Earhart and family, Jane Holliday, and Kyle Leonard.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Old Providence ARP Church Cemetery by Pastor Patrick Malphrus.

The family would like to express a special "Thank you" to Dr. Rob Marsh and the Middlebrook Family Medicine Staff, Augusta Health Foundation Hospice of the Shenandoah and Augusta Home Health staff and caregivers.
