Obituary

Roxie H. White of Williamsburg died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 15, 2017, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Blessed with a servants heart and executive acumen, she was an active volunteer and community leader. Born on March 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Cletus E. and Charlotte R. Houff of Mount Sidney. She spent her early career as a congressional aide in Washington, D.C., most notably for the late U.S. Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia. In the 1970s she moved to Williamsburg to manage the Fort Magruder Inn, then owned by her family. In 1982, she married Robert E. White. Upon his 1995 death and the sale of Fort Magruder, she took over management of her husbands business, VIP and Celebrity Limousines. In her retirement, her considerable talents shifted to community service. She loved history, the arts, world travel and sharing those passions with family and friends. Her wide generosity was respectful and often anonymous. Surviving are two brothers: Dwight (Carolyn) Houff and Doug (Janet) Houff, all of Mount Sidney. The seven her adored and grateful nieces and nephews also survive: Robin (Brandon) Williams, Deona Houff, Melody (Mike) Fulk, Kim (Mike) Cash, Brad (Marmi) Houff, Zane (Kate) Houff, and Marsha (Clayton) Justice. Other survivors include younger generations of nieces and nephews, one aunt, a number of cousins and many friends.
Two memorial services will be held. The first is Sunday, June 18, at 3 p.m., at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, 91 Valley Church Road, Weyers Cave. A reception will follow. The second is Monday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at the Pleasant Valley Church cemetery.

Friends are welcome to call on her brothers at their homes.
In lieu of flowers, donations marked in memory of Roxie White can be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, Va. 23185. These donations will support the churchs local outreach efforts.
