Roscoe James Hanger, 91, widower of Dorothy Jane (Kelley) Hanger, formerly of Trinity Point Road, Swoope, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Brookdale of Staunton.

Mr. Hanger was born in Swoope, Virginia on November 4, 1930 a son of the late Franklin Pierce Hanger and Daisy (Cox) Hanger.

Roscoe was a member of Westview United Methodist Church and was self-employed with R.J. Plumbing and Heating. Prior to being self-employed, Mr. Hanger was employed with B.C. Clemmer Contractors. He was a member of the Hillbilly Band, was an avid square dancer, and enjoyed calling square dance figures. He liked gardening, especially growing tomatoes.

Mr. Hanger was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hanger was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bob" Hanger and two sisters, Hilda Eavey and Juanita Harlow.

Surviving is a son, Timothy James Hanger and his wife Patricia of Swoope; a daughter, Kathy Jane Atkins and her husband Scott of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, Christopher Hanger and his wife Katie and Nathan Hanger; a great-granddaughter, Frankie Hanger; and a life-long friend, Donald Allanson of Swoope.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend William "Bill" Trice.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Hanger, Nathan Hanger, Doug Harlow, Larry Allanson, Dale Dull, Alan Peterson, and Scott Atkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Allanson, Dale Powers, Buster Lovegrove and Ray Meek.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is handling his arrangements.
