Ronald Edmond 'Ron' Garber's Obituary

Ronald Edmond Ron Garber, 72, of Lime Kiln Road, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, September 11, 2014. He was held close to his wifes heart when he closed his eyes for the last time. He had a wonderful look of peace on his face and she knew he was home.
Ronald was born, at home in Gloversville, NY, on December 1, 1941 to Martin and Blanche (King) Garber.
In 1962 he enlisted into the United States Army and during his deployment to Germany, he met and married Patricia Buote from Churchville, VA. After his tour with the Army he became a store manager for Giant Foods in the DC Metropolitan area and was also a general manager for a printing company in Waldorf, MD.
Mr. Garber is a member of LaPlata United Methodist Church in LaPlata, MD, and a founding member and President of the Board of Trustees at Lakeside, United Methodist Church in Waldorf, MD. Ron loved going to the local high schools to watch them play basketball, football and baseball games and was a big Staunton Braves fan. He was an avid golfer and worked a part time job in the pro shop at the Ironwood Golf Course where he met and played golf with many members.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his daughter and only child, Tammi Garber Switzer who was killed by a drunk driver in 1992.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Patricia Trish (Buote) Garber; his grandson and fiance Rob Switzer and Stephanie Myers; a great grandson, Jonathan Switzer of Waldorf, MD; a sister Donna FitzGibbon and her husband Jack of Schenectady, NY; two brothers, Richard and Donald Garber of Gloversville, NY; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Buote) Catterton of Waldorf, MD and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in LaPlata United Methodist Church, 3 Port Tobacco Road, LaPlata, MD, 20646, by Dr. Bruce Jones.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A Celebration of Rons life for family and friends will be held at the home of Diane and Jimmy Richards for fellowship and sharing memories of Ron. Directions will be available at the church.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 East Rio Road, Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
