Roger Dale Palmer's Obituary

Roger Dale Palmer passed away peacefully at his home in Pawleys Island, S.C. on Friday, June 5, 2015. Mr. Palmer was 92.

Roger was one of four children born to Frona and Allen Palmer of Holdrege, Nebraska. He was born in the depression era and began his first career at age 7, selling newspapers to help his mother support the family. Mr. Palmer was a decorated WWII Hero who was a Tail Gunner on the B17, Round Trip Ticket serving in Europe. His military career spanned almost thirty years, serving in many foreign countries under Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, and many government officials while Stationed at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC, and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland as part of the Military Air Transport Service. Following his military retirement in 1968, he went onto a third career as the Director of Facilities at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. After retiring from this career he went onto start his own business, assisting the educational community and many non-profit organizations dealing with environmental issues. That company continues to operate under the direction of his youngest son, Peter Palmer.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Donna Palmer. Mrs. Palmer describes her husband as a believer and follower of Christ, a devoted husband and father, always quick with a joke and a big grin. Roger and Donna had a wonderful life together and traveled extensively during Mr. Palmers military career and after. In addition to his wife, Mr. Palmer is survived by a daughter, Nancy Trimble of Pawleys Island, S.C.; two sons, Dan Palmer of Pawleys Island, S.C. and Peter Palmer of Staunton, Virginia; a granddaughter, Marti Hart and her husband Calvin; and three great grandchildren, Allie Osborne and her husband Nathan, Joshua Hart and Makenzie Hart also survive.

A Graveside service will military rites will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor John M. Ward.
