Robert James Matthews, Jr., 59, husband of Anna Marie (Schmid) Matthews, of 311 Gray Ave., Staunton, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Matthews was born on April 24, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Robert James, Sr. and Catherine (Ford) Matthews.
Robert retired from the I.R.S. in 1996 as an auditor with 10 years of service. Robert was an avid soccer player and fan. He also enjoyed all sports, telling jokes and had life-long friendships with many grade school friends that he considered as close as family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Matthews.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, Robert is survived by three daughters, Christina L. Thompson and her husband Brian of Jackson, Ohio, Kimberly A. Matthews and her husband Adam Crenshaw of Staunton and Jenna L. Bennett and her husband Dexter of Staunton; two brothers, Ronald J. Matthews and his wife Margaret of LA and Richard J. Matthews and his wife April of TN; nine grandchildren, Jaden, Josalyn, Abby, Hayden, Brecklyn, Alexis, Lilyanna, Beckett and Kylie.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Monsignor Andrew Cassin.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be in PA.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
