Robert Harvey Hammond, 89, widower of Louise (Goff) Hammond of 132 Fairway Drive, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 in the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Center in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Hammond was born on March 18, 1927 in Evanston IL, a son of the late Bert and Margit (Mark) Hammond.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of Harrisonburg American Legion Post #188 and was a retired advertising broker. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and was a graduate of Denison College in Ohio with a Bachelor of Science Degree. The love of his life, Louise passed away in 2007. Mr. Hammond was a great and loyal friend, generous man at heart and enjoyed the big band music of the 40s.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Susan Moniot and her husband Jerome L. of Staunton; a brother, Don Hammond of IL; a brother-in-law, William Goff of West Camp, NY; a niece, Rebecca Steiner of IL; two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

In keeping with Mr. Hammonds wishes there will be no services.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
