Robert David Ellis, 71, New Haven, CT entered into rest on November 15, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Ellis was born on February 24, 1944 in Staunton, a son of the late Joseph and Priscilla (Kincaid) Ellis.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. Prior to retirement he was employed by Amtrak and Conrail Railroad as a Conductor and was owner/operator of Ellis Transportation Service. He was a sports fan, an avid reader including daily reading of the Bible and enjoyed politics.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by a brother, William Ellis and three sisters, Cordelia Powell, Helen Jenkins and Marie Ellis. Surviving is a son, Robert T. Ellis and his wife Eydie; a daughter, Shawna Rodriquez and her husband Peter; four brothers, Joseph Ellis, Ronald Ellis, Lacy Ellis and Curtis Ellis; a sister, Nancy Ellis; and a granddaughter, Brittany Brooks.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 in Mt. Salem Baptist Church by Rev. Frank Jenkins, Sr. and words of expression by Rev. Thomas Johnson.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens with military rites.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
