Mr. Richard Lee Propst, age 78, formerly of Craigsville, VA and currently of Stuarts Draft VA passed into the best musical life there is.heaven.
He was born in Pendleton County WV on December 2, 1934. Preceding him in death is his parents, Robert and Violet (Halterman) Propst and an infant son Alan Trent.
He was co-owner, with his wife, of Lees Restaurant in Craigsville, and founder and developer of Lands of Goshen, in Goshen VA.
He has two sisters, Shelby Roadcap of Verona, Virginia and Emma Cvetko of Mount Sidney, Virginia.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Sarah Lee; 5 sons, Roger (Helen)of Lake Nelson, Virginia, Mitchell (Tammy)of Harrisonburg, Steven of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Marshall (Katherine)of Waynesboro, Virginia and Mike(Susan)of Troutville, Virginia,Their three daughters, Aletha Gail (Jim) Sprouse of Craigsville, Virginia, Sheila (Bruce) Mooneyham of Raphine and Melanie (Dale) Easter of Roanoke, Virginia, he is also survived by a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For those who truly knew Richard knew him as a great lover of Bluegrass and old style country music. He always carried his beloved Martin, D18 guitar and would pick a tune with any that would ask. It will never sound the same.
Richard had a lifelong friend and fellow music picker, Mr. Edd Michael of Port Republic. Richard is left with many friends that will always remember him.
The family would like to Thank Ms. Jackie Smith for all the visits and extra laughs he needed. We will forever have an undying debt of gratitude to his son, Steven Propst for caregiving that he has provided to his father and mother.
Pallbearers will be Corbett Ratliff, Dennis Harlow, Mitchell Propst, Jr, Zachary David Propst, Matthew Martin and Vincent Doyle.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Services will be held at Coffman Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Scott Reese.
Burial will follow at Tinkling Spring Cemetery in Fishersville VA.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
