Richard Rooster Powell, Sr., 82, husband of Phyllis (Wright) Powell of Staunton passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Powell was born March 5, 1934 in Waynesboro, a son of the late Alvin Morris and Mary Anderson (Stump) Powell.
Rooster was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was self-employed in refrigeration and air conditioning repair and the owner of Powell Services. Rooster enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Beverly (Niess) Powell; two brothers, Morris Powell and Giles Powell and a sister, Betty Lou McNeill.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years are three sons, Rick M. Powell and wife Lynette of Verona, Randy Powell and wife Shelley of Staunton and Rob Powell of Mt. Solon; six grandchildren, Broc Powell, Chad Powell, Jamee Powell, Jessica Powell, Sean Powell and Samantha Powell and six great-grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the Linden Heights Baptist Church by Pastor Luke B. Smith.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery.
