Ray A. Nuckoles, Sr.

CHURCHVILLE:

Ray Ashby Nuckoles, Sr. 67, beloved husband of Catherine Lee (Carroll) Nuckoles, of 298 Jerusalem Chapel Road, Churchville passed away Wednesday, (January 14, 2009) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
Ray was born on December 15, 1941 in Staunton, a son of the late Oliver Clay and Bessie Marie (Strickler) Nuckoles.
Mr. Nuckoles was owner and operator of the Rays Food Stores later changed to the Sav-Mor Foods located on West Beverley Street in Staunton. He was a member of Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren Church.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Clay Nuckoles, Sr., his best friends and brothers-in-law, Arthur J. Carroll and Harry H. Carroll, and a cousin, Richard Butch Nuckoles, Jr.
In addition to his wife to whom Ray married on February 28, 1959 survivors include five sons and three daughters-in-law; Senior Master Sergeant (Ret.) Ray Ashby, Jr. and wife Theresa Nuckoles of Mesa, AZ., Roderick Clay Nuckoles, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV., Randy Allen, Sr. and wife Elizabeth Nuckoles of Lewisburg, WV., Tech Sergeant Rodney Wayne and wife Amy Nuckoles of Altus Air Force Base, Ok. and Ryan Ashby Nuckoles, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Lee (Nuckoles) and husband Arnie Ailer, Sr. of Churchville; five brothers, and three sisters-in-law, Roy James and wife Loretta Nuckoles and Ronnie Newton, Sr. and wife Wanda Nuckoles, all of Davenport, Fla., Edward Gilmer and wife Mary Nuckoles, William Francis and wife Patricia Nuckoles all of Staunton, and Joe Marshall Nuckoles of TN.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Catherine Sissy and husband Buddy Robins of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Janet Nuckoles and Sue Carroll; sixteen grandchildren, Arnie, Jr., Matthew Christopher, Ray, III, Robert, Ryan, Gregory, Roderick, Jr., Jessica, Randy, Jr., Rebecca, Ryan, Alexus, Macy, Ryan, Jr. and Dylan, three great-grandchildren, Layne, Ashlee, and Madison, and a special Pomeranian Puppy, Patches Lee.
Services for Mr.Ray Nuckoles will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (January 17, 2009) in the Coffman Funeal Home Chapel by the Rev. Matthew Hann.
The family will receive friends at the residence at anytime or those desiring may pay their respects at the funeral home.
At the request of Mr. Nuckoles there will be no public viewing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren Church, 314 Chapel Road, Churchville, Va. 24421.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
