Obituary

R. Dean Harris, Sr., 87, husband of Janet (Doyle) Harris and father of Deana (Harris) Tipler and Richard "Rick" Dean Harris, II all of Waynesboro, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his home, while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Harris was born on October 26, 1935, and was raised in Waynesboro, Virginia by his proud and loving parents Frank and Vivian Harris.  His family was his biggest accomplishment, of which he was most proud.  Dean was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather above all else. He is survived by his wife,  Janet (Doyle) Harris, who he spent 32 wonderful years with,  his daughter, Deana Tipler and husband Brad; his son, Richard "Rick" Dean Harris, II and his wife Beth; his grandchildren, Dalton Tipler; Liam Tipler; Ethan Harris; Zachary Beach and Liam Beach; his brother, Ronnie and wife Sylvia of Waynesboro;  his brother, Rudy and wife Debbie of Stuarts Draft; a number of nieces and nephews and a special, loyal canine, Abby. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, Jennifer, with who he was joyfully reunited in heaven and brother, Bob, who he missed every day.

Dean was not only dedicated and committed to his family, he was also a committed and upstanding member of his church and beloved community.  Dean was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.  He worked at GE as a supervisor for over 20 years and then became the proud owner and operator of Al's Cab and Staunton City Cab for 40 years. Dean did not just run the cab business; Dean was the cab business and was happy to be involved with every facet from driving to working on the cars. Dean Harris was a tool and die maker, a driver, a mechanic, a business owner and leader, and a problem solver.  He took tremendous pride in his family and loved helping his community.  He had an unparalleled dedication to his work and business as well as a love for water, boating, camping, and driving.  In all these things, he most enjoyed time with his family, as they were his top priority. Those who knew him were truly blessed.
