Phyllis Darlene (Whitesell) Gill
STAUNTON:
Phyllis Darlene (Whitesell) Gill, 57, wife of Dewey Jordan Gill of 42 Spring Crest Lane, Staunton passed away Sunday morning, (May 3, 2009) at her residence.
Mrs. Gill was born on August 29, 1951 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Raymond William and Charlotte Estelle (Griffin) Whitesell.
Darlene was employed at Goodwill as a processor.
In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by a brother Hansford Lee Whitesell.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 38 years are two sons and a daughter-in-law; Matthew Steven Gill and his wife Teresa and Michael Wayne Gill, all of Staunton, three brothers and sisters-in-law; Elmer Jerry Griffin and his wife Eileen of Georgia, David Clifton Whitesell and his wife Betty Dean of Stuarts Draft and Ward G. Whitesell and his wife Sondra of Verona; two step-grandchildren, Brett Lee Akers and Steven Dale Akers. Also surviving is her mother-in-law and best friend, Virginia Mabel Gill; a sister-in-law and good friend Dorothy Johnson; good friend Tammy Evans; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
It gave Darlene great joy to help others.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (May 7, 2009) in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence of her nephew and friend, Billy Johnson and Tammy Evans, 48 Stuart Ave., Stuarts Draft.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, (May 8, 2009) in the Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor Earl B. Monroe.
Active Pallbearers will be Jerry Johnson, Anthony Gill, Ronald Altizer, Billy Johnson, Sr., Hansford Johnson, Samuel Gill, Sonny Johnson and Burford Gill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Whitesell, David Whitesell, Cody Cline, Sommer Cline and Billy Johnson, Jr.
