(Hicks) Wood Walton
July 24, 1938 – September 4, 2022
Peggy Lorraine (Hicks) Wood Walton, 84, wife of Richard C. Walton, of Staunton went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, September 4, 2022 in the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Peggy was born in Craigsville, Virginia on July 24, 1938, a daughter of the late Ashby Henry Hicks Sr. and Sadie Jane (Little) Hicks.
Mrs. Walton was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of faith who loved her family dearly and being a caregiver. Peggy loved spending time with family, fishing, and going on mountain rides.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Wood, Sr. and two sisters, Marie Wood and Betty Drumheller.
In addition to her husband of 17 years, she is survived by her sons, James Ryan and his wife, Myrna of Florida, David Ryan and his wife, Sherri of Connecticut, and Joseph C. Wood Jr. of Verona; daughter, Mary B. Wood of Staunton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; special niece and caregiver Carolyn Shiflet; sister-in-law Betty Jenkins of Culpeper, and numerous other special family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Mark Jenkins officiating.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to her friends and coaches at Rock Steady Boxing in Staunton, Emmy Burks and Chris Greco at the Bethesda Physical Therapy, the staff at AmeriCare in Waynesboro, and the Augusta Health Foundation Hospice of the Shenandoah and the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
