Obituary

Peggy Ann (Carter) Harris, 88, wife of Earl E. Harris, Jr. formerly of Staunton, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Harris was born on May 17, 1928 in Richmond, Virginia, a daughter of the late Claude Marion and Hazel Virginia (Hudlow) Carter.

Peggy was retired from Westinghouse where she was employed as a switchboard operator. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2216 and had served as past State President. Peggy enjoyed traveling and she was well known as the Cookie Lady who contributed her time willingly as the Food Chairman for the WTON Children\u0027s Christmas party for a number of years.

Mrs. Harris was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband of seventy-three years, is a son, Mike Harris and his wife Lucy; a daughter, Judy Staher; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, also survive.

A Graveside service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road in Amelia, Virginia by Pastor Bill Trice.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at the VFW Post 2216.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
