Pauline H. Rankin

Pauline Mae (Hyden) Rankin, 84, widow of George Benjamin Rankin of 55 First Street, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Rankin was born November 25, 1926 in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, a daughter of the late David Vogel and Florence Gertrude (East) Hyden.
Mrs. Rankin was the co-owner of Beverly News formerly known as Valley News Stand where she was employed for over fifty years. She was a member of Jollivue United Methodist Church, attended the Senior Center and she was an avid bingo player. She enjoyed Nascar Racing and was a dedicated fan of Jeff Gordon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers, two sons-in-law as well as an infant grandson.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Connie Rankin and his wife Jatanna of Verona; four daughters and sons-in-law, Janet K. Nuckoles of Staunton, Gloria R. McQuain of Fishersville, Ellen Grant and her husband Kenneth of Stuarts Draft and Brenda R. Whetsell and her husband Tom of Mt. Olive, NC; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Hyden and his wife Anna of Stuarts Draft; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a special uncle, Preston C. East and his wife Phyllis of Waynesboro; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mae Reeder.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Meade Shuey, Robert East, Jr., Doug Hupman, Cleveland Campbell, Ronnie Hyden and Edgar Smith.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
