Obituary

Pauline Thomas (Chittum) Austin, 95, widow of Sylvester McClung Austin of Raphine, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 in the Blue Ridge Christian Home / Beulah Land Campus.
Mrs. Austin was born on March 6, 1922 in Spottswood, a daughter of the late Clyde Wilson and Lula Bernice (Cox) Chittum.
Pauline was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church and the Steeles Tavern V.F.W Post #8279 Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and her husband of thirty-three years, Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by four sisters, Jean Brown, Ruth Brooks, Helen Ayers, and Modema Smiley; six brothers, Lloyd, Tucker, Burness, Elmer, Everette, and Jim Chittum.
Surviving is a daughter, Katrina A. Hemp and her husband Michael of Middlebrook; two grandchildren, Jared McClung Hemp and Amanda Gail Hemp and her fianc Matthew Fortune; four great-grandchildren, Brendon Tucker Fortune, Colton Michael Hemp, Carter James Fortune, and Ayla-Dawn Givens Fortune; a brother, Earl W. Chittum and his wife Marjorie of Fishersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence of Mrs. Austins daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Michael, 419 Sinking Springs Road, Middlebrook and those desiring may also pay their respects by visiting Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jared Hemp, Matthew Fortune, Martin Chittum, E.R. Brooks, Jeff Brooks, and Charlie May.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to a charity of ones choice.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Blue Ridge Christian Home / Beulah Land Campus for their care and attention given to Mrs. Austin over the past nine years.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
