STAUNTON:
Paul Richard Phillippe,Sr. 90, formerly of Staunton, went to be with his beloved wife, Lucille Virginia (Coyner) Phillippe, and the Lord on April 26, 2013, at Salem Terrace Assisted Living in Salem, VA.
Mr. Phillippe was born in Augusta County on April 12, 1923, a son of the late Ephraim Marion and Josie Phillippe.
Paul lived his entire life in Augusta County until last fall when he and his wife moved into a retirement home in Salem, VA. He graduated from Beverley Manor High School, attended Virginia Tech and University of Edinburgh, England. Paul served his country during WWII as Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army in Germany and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart, bronze stars and numerous ribbons and medals. He was the owner of Paul R. Phillippe, Contractor and built many custom homes in the Staunton and Augusta County area. Upon retirement, he enjoyed raising beef cattle on his farm at Rivermont. He was an active member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church and more recently Spring Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Deacon and Elder and received the honor of Elder Emeritus in the Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents and wife of 66 years, Mr. Phillippe was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters and a grandson.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are two sons, Paul R. Phillippe, Jr. and wife, Ginnie, of Fincastle and David M. Phillippe and wife, Rose, of Bedford; two daughters, Bonnie P. Garnett and husband, Cal, of Helen, GA, and Betty P. Reynolds and husband, Jim, of Vinton; a brother, Wilmer Phillippe, of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; also surviving are sisters-in-law Mary (Coyner) Patterson, of Staunton, and Becky Coyner, of Chattanooga, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, April 29, 2013, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton.
Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Spring Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bill Harris and the Rev. Charles McFarlin.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. H. Lynn Moore, Dr. Paul Yeaton, and Dr. Michael Wiid, Salem Terrace Assisted Living, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Compassion Committee at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, 4141 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
