IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patsy Jean
Greaver
May 28, 1952 – September 9, 2022
Patsy Jean Greaver, 70, of Verona, Virginia, made her transition from this life peacefully on September 9, 2022, following a year-long struggle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, which she fought against gallantly and never once let defeat her until the very end. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Francis Greaver, and the sister of Donna Newman, Charlie Greaver, Tony Greaver, and Shirley Via, all of whom reside locally.
She had two children who were the apples of her eye. Her beloved daughter, the late Erica Greaver, had made her transition almost a year earlier due to an illness, and her son, Matthew Durrette, who Patsy loved to the moon and often bragged about. The two loves of her life, the fathers of her children, were the late James Taylor, who was taken in a car accident in the 1970s, and Roy Durrette, who resides in Verona, Virginia.
Patsy leaves behind four grandchildren who she cherished, and her last wish was that they know beyond a doubt that she loved them dearly and was always proud of them: Dustin Jenkins and Desi Greaver, and the twins, Draven Greaver and Draden Greaver, who reside with Ray Strickler, a man whom Patsy wanted to thank eternally for all that he has done after the boys lost their mother.
Patsy also had many devoted friends who were like family to her. These include her cherished childhood friends, Edna Williams and Donna Wood, who cared for Patsy with stories, food, and love; John Eckard, who always made Patsy laugh and perk up during her illness and kept her lawn pristine, and his wife, Joan, whose sweetness was so calming to Patsy; the late Paul Secrist, the best neighbor in the world who always checked on Patsy and uplifted her daily with his quirky sense of humor, and who passed just days before Patsy, and his wife, Linda, who radiated peace and love whenever she visited Patsy.
Other cherished friends include Cynthia Bowman; Juanita Perkins; Cathy Campbell; Nicholas Patler; Alice Patler; Katie Savage; and former co-workers who she always talked about fondly with a smile: the Patel family, Derek Brooks, Jimmy Sheets, Michael Wagner, all her friends at First Bank and Trust in Verona, and many others. Two of Patsy's angels during her illness were her dear friends Janet Truxell, who devotedly cared for Patsy until the very end, giving every ounce of her heart as Patsy approached her passing, and who helped her crossover, and Donna Wood, who from the beginning lovingly helped Patsy navigate her ALS and did everything she could to make life easier.
A techno-savvy granny, Patsy loved getting deals and discounts using Shopkicks and other apps, and she got much joy from buying her grandchildren presents online. She was fiery, kind, stubborn, humorous, tough, and intense, spicing up life with her personality and making many of us laugh often. She fought the good fight against one of the most debilitating diseases on the planet, often without flinching and while trying to be as independent as possible, when the strongest among us would have given up. She will be missed.
There will be a life celebration for Patsy and her late daughter, Erica, at a future date, the details of which will be posted on Facebook.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
