Patricia Mae (Staton) Thompson, 85, widow of Edward Cline Thompson Sr., formerly of Thomas Street, Staunton, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at Brookdale in Staunton.

Mrs. Thompson was born at Kings Daughters Hospital on Mary Baldwin University Campus in Staunton, Virginia on March 19, 1941, a daughter of the late Glenn Wade Staton and Helen (Painter) Staton.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Edward Thompson Sr., and by the father of her children, Butch Sheffer. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Wade Andrew Staton.

Surviving is a son, Joseph A. Sheffer II (Connie); three daughters, Christine Bussard, Lynnie Hart (Dennis), and Glenda Sheffer; an exceptional granddaughter and great-grandson, Tricia Smith and Jake Coffey. Along with a special grandson, Jason Sheffer; a remarkable sister-in-law, Chrystal Boyers; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family extends appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Senior living and Legacy Hospice. Thank you all for the special loving care Mom received.
