Oscar Walker Buddy Harris, Jr., 86, husband of Joan Marie (Carroll) Harris of 515 Guilford Avenue, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 in the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville.
Mr. Harris was born on September 20, 1929 in Staunton, the son of the late Oscar Walker, Sr. and Delena (Hemp) Harris.
Buddy was a member of New Life Four Square Gospel Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Mr. Harris retired from Dixie Gas and Oil in 2012 after 62 years of service, having the honor of a scholarship named after him for his honorable service to the company. He enjoyed fishing, playing basketball in his younger years and he had a smile that was contagious."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou Beheler; a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Engleman and two sisters.
Mr. Harris is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, is a son, Daniel L. Harris and his wife Tammy of Fishersville; three daughters, Malissa L. Warren and her husband Buddy, Delena H. Painter and her husband Eddie both of Staunton and Robin Harris of Craigsville; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Randell Black and Pastor Peyton Harris with a private burial following in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel L. Harris, Eddie Painter, Kevin Helmick, Jarret Boney, Caleb Harris and Jeremy Smith.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Buddy Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Dixie Gas and Oil, 229 Lee Highway, Verona, Virginia 24482.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
