Ora Louise Thompson Lotts, 92, of Raphine, VA, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, September 23, 2016, after suffering a stroke two weeks previously.
She was born January 10, 1924, in Greenville, the youngest of five girls born to Carl Vernon and Ora Arehart Thompson.
Mrs. Lotts, along with her sister, Helen, taught at Middlebrook Elementary School for about 20 years. During those years as well as in her retirement, she served actively in New Providence Presbyterian Church following her marriage holding various positions in the church. In their younger years she and her husband led the Young Peoples Group. She continued attending Sunday services when able and participating in the Newport Circle of her church until her death. In addition to church activities, she was a member of the Augusta County Home Demonstration Club is it was then known. She was an excellent cook using fresh and canned vegetables from her garden as well as sharing baked items from her kitchen with friends and neighbors.
In addition to her husband, S. Mack Lotts, Jr. who died August 2, 2002, she was predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn T. Alexander (2012), Helen T. Montgomery (2007), Bertha T. Kerr (2002) and Janet T. Kopp (2008).
Mrs. Lotts is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Lunsford; son-in-law, Eugene D. (Gene) Lunsford; granddaughter, Suzanna L. Lunsford; as well as 3 nephews, Larry Alexander, William (Bill) \u0026 Dorle Kerr, Jimmy \u0026 Judy Kerr; 2 nieces, Carolyn Alexander and Mary Jo McLaughlin-Saez (Blake \u0026 Afton Stowers). She is also survived by several great-nephews and great-nieces, Hyde \u0026 Patrick Kerr, Michael \u0026 Andrew Kerr, and Tanya Alexander.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Raphine by Rev. Bill Harris. Following the services, family and friends are encouraged to attend a reception in the churchs Fellowship Hall.
