Obituary for Benjamin Christian 'Ben' Zinkhan, III

Benjamin Christian Ben Zinkhan, III, 76, widower of Joyce Ann (Robertson) Zinkhan of 1606 Ridgeway Drive, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer.

Mr. Zinkhan was born on June 6, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland, a son of the late Benjamin Christian, Jr. and Edith M. (Parson) Zinkhan.

Ben was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, serving on several church committees, the Board of Trustees, ushering for the 8:30 a.m. service and was active in the 4th of July stand and when they had Apple days. Mr. Zinkhan was a 1960 graduate of Augusta Military Academy, served in the 11th Air Assault Division as a SP4 of the United States Army with a tour of duty in Turkey, he attended V.P.I. and Dunsmore Business College. He retired from E.I. DuPont with thirty-four years of service, the last twenty years was served in the Power House Department. Ben was a member of the AMA Alumni Association, on the Board of Directors, a tour guide, and a dedicated volunteer for the Museum for several years. He cherished time with his family and enjoyed bass fishing with his cousin, Earl Willie Beall, Jr. and Bob Smith.

In addition to his parents and wife of thirty years, Mr. Zinkhan was preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides; an infant son, John C. Zinkhan; and a special friend, Goodloe Saunders.

Surviving are four children, Krystal D. Goff and her husband Lee of Staunton, Laura D. Zinkhan of Conover, N.C., Sherri Ann Langford of Staunton, and Timothy E. Tim Mizer and his wife Lisa of Swoope; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; friends from AMA, Don Studer, Joe Jopheson, Frank Williamson, Duke Fancher, Rev. Greg Douglas, Doug Carter, and Gary Granger; and special friends, Dwight Harper, Everett Pitsenbarger, Bill Mayne, Rick Shull, Dale Hiner, and John Mayne; and his pet dog, Molly.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 in the Christ United Methodist Church, 1512 Churchville Avenue, Staunton.

A Celebration of life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the Christ United Methodist Church by Rev. Sarah Locke.

Burial will follow in the Augusta Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Studer, Matthew Goff, Thomas Langford, Willie Beall, Gary Granger, and Bob Smith.

It is suggested those desiring to make memorial contributions to the AMA Alumni Association, Post Office Box 100, Ft. Defiance, Virginia 24437-0100 or the Christ United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 363, Staunton, Virginia 24402.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
