Nelson Eugene Nellie Young, 76, husband of Rebecca Ann (Lambert) Young of 293 New Hope and Crimora Road passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Young was born on October 3, 1940 in Rockingham County, a son of the late Minor Franklin and Katherine Virginia (Simmers) Young.
Nelson was an active member of the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren where he served as past Deacon, board member and was presently serving as Trustee. He retired from DuPont where he was employed as an Electrician with 34 years of service and was a member of the DuPont Fibers Softball team for many years. Nelson was a lifetime member of the New Hope Community, he enjoyed woodworking, golf, and watching his grandsons play sports.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years, is a daughter, Joy (Young) Mauzy and her husband Dwayne; two grandchildren, Shawn Mauzy and his companion Molly Whitesell and Brad Mauzy and wife Taylor; a brother, Ricky Young and wife Keri; a sister, Louise Meek and husband Donald; a brother-in-law, Frank Lambert and wife Georgeann; a sister-in-law, Gay Banks and husband Ted; a number of nieces and nephews; and great-nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 in the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren by Pastor Galen M. Combs and Pastor John Vest.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Seekers Sunday school class of Barren Ridge.
