Nell Coyner (Byers) Lotts Whitfield, 92, formerly of Old Greenville Road, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
Mrs. Whitfield was born on August 22, 1920 in Parnassus, a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Virginia (Coyner) Byers.
Nellie was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Womens Group and the Adult Sunday School Class. She was retired from Genesco after forty-two years of service as a seamstress. Nellie loved caring for her family and was always there to help when needed. She enjoyed cooking and working in the garden.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Peyton Lotts, her husband, Rev. Samuel Whitfield; three sisters, Helen (Byers) Moses, Martha Ann (Byers) Richardson and Eleanor (Byers) Moran.
Mrs. Whitfield was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving is a son, Richard D. Rick Lotts of Staunton; a granddaughter, Kimberley Kim Shafer and her husband Matt; two great-grandsons, Thomas and Samuel Crotty; and three step-children, John Whitfield, George Whitfield and Carolyn Dull also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013 at Thornrose Cemetery by Rev. Jack B. Wilkers.
The family will receive friends following the service at Third Presbyterian Church.
