Jean (Painter) Massie, 67, wife of Malcolm O. Massie, of 1242 Indian Ridge Road, Stuarts Draft, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in Augusta Health, in Fishersville.
Mrs. Massie was born on January 8, 1942 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Harry Thomas and Mary Wallace (Ramsey) Painter.
Jean was an active member of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church. She worked at Valley Uni-Way for many years but most recently was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, as well as canning, cooking for her family and working with flowers at her home and in her garden.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Massie was preceded in death by her step-father, Mr. Bacil Snead.
Surviving in addition to her husband to whom she married on August 18, 1967 is a daughter and son-in-law, Carman ONeal Lunsford and her husband Scott of Lyndhurst; two sisters, Nancy L. Martin of Lyndhurst and Beverly Butch Humphries of Stuarts Draft; a step-brother, Roger Hite of Loretta, VA; four grandchildren, Steven S., Austin O., Landon A. and Ally Kate Lunsford and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Jeans life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 in the Stuarts Draft Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. William E. Kopp, Jr., Charles C. Ramsey and Rev. Judson D. Baldwin.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Benjamin Howell, Matt Howell, Phillip Howell, Guy D. Brooks, Gary L. Eavers, Charlie Schooley, Andy Johnson, Jr. and Doug W. Conner.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, nephews and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home and other times at her residence.
