Mona Renee` (Smith) Harmon, 56, wife of James Phillip Harmon, of 687 Gloria Place, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Harmon was born March 1, 1953 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Malcolm Matthew Smith and Elizabeth Ann (Nutty) Smith.
Mona was an active member of Third Presbyterian Church. She was employed for over 30 years as a Register Nurse with the Kings Daughters Hospital and Augusta Health; she was on the Nursing Resource Team with the hospital and worked in the Crossroads Department. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1970 and received her BS Degree in Nursing at Eastern Mennonite University. Monas favorite time was time she was able to spend with her family and most of all her grandchildren whom she cherished.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Staunton and her husband to whom she married on May 27, 2006, is a daughter and son-in-law Brooke Kaitlyn (McAllister) Harmon and her husband Spencer B. Harmon of Staunton; two step-sons, Jeffrey Christopher Harmon and his wife Kristin (Stumpf) of Fairbanks, Alaska and Patrick Alexander Harmon and his wife Jackie (Tesch) of Staunton; a brother, Mark Stewart Smith of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Kaylee Elizabeth Harmon, Madison Alexandra Harmon, Ian Alexander Harmon and Blake Thomas Harmon.
A graveside service will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the Augusta Memorial Park with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Third Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack B. Wilkers.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, October 30 2009 in the funeral home and at other times her residence.
Active pallbearers will be her step-sons, Jeff Harmon and Pat Harmon, Aaron Clifton, Eric Gibson, Casey Bryant and Mike Schoeller.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Staunton/Augusta Rescue Squad, 1601 North Coalter Street, P.O. Box 2566, Staunton, VA 24402.
