Mervin Lee Smallwood, 80, husband of Betty Jean (Thurston) Smallwood went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 18, 2013 in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Mr. Smallwood was born on May 27, 1933 in Waynesboro, Virginia, a son of the late Charles R. and Ethel (Knicely) Smallwood.
Mervin was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. He was a graduate from Wilson Memorial High School class of 51. Mr. Smallwood was employed by G.E. Genicom as an Expediter and was a bus driver for Augusta County Schools and also a farmer in New Hope. Mervin was a friend to many, he was known and loved by everyone he met and set a foundation of Jesus Christ for his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by a
son, Glen Derwin Smallwood; three brothers, Nelson Smallwood, Paul Smallwood and Leon Smallwood; three sisters, Blanche Grimes, Evelyn Powell, and Angeline Smallwood; two infant sisters and an infant brother and a stepmother, Ellen (Bunch) Smallwood.
Survivors including his wife of 56 years; are a son Mervin Lee Smallwood, Jr. of New Hope; two daughters Deborah (Smallwood) Kiser and husband Charles of Staunton and Julie Anne Smallwood of New Hope; nine grandchildren, Travis and Pastor Corey Smallwood, Katy, Dwayne, David and Daniel Kiser, Brittany Kasemmongkol, Maury and Matigan Hutchins and seven great grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00p.m.Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in Crossroads Baptist Church by the Pastor Bill Johnson.
A private Graveside will be in the Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Crossroads Baptist Church.
