Mac, 69, husband of Sharon Hemp, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2021 at his residence due to cardiac arrest.
Mac was born on August 26, 1952 in Staunton, Virginia, the son of the late Berry McCutchan Hemp and Mary Stuart (Sweet) Hemp.
Mr. Hemp was a graduate of Virginia Tech where he was part of the THETA CHI Fraternity. He followed Virginia Tech athletics and was an avid Hokie football fan. Mac was a life-long farmer and grew turkeys for 40 years.
In addition to his wife of 44 years, Mac is survived by four children, Scott Hemp (Alisha), Karman McCray (Steve), Andrew Hemp (Mandy), and Kristan Cook (James); two sisters, Rhonda Shultz (Robert) and Mary Boyd Hubbard (John); nine grandchildren, Anthony Golden, Brendan Hemp, Savanna and Tanner McCray, Kayleigh, Alexis, Lillian, and Easton Hemp, and Layla Cook and two great-grandchildren Harley and Axl Golden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Old Providence ARP Church, by Pastor Patrick Malphrus.
The family will receive friends following the service.
