Mary Jane (Ashby) Withers, 86, wife of George E. Withers, Jr., formerly of North Augusta Street, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Withers was born on December 11, 1931 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Lacy Redell Ashby and Mary Agnes (Forsyth) Ashby Arey.
Mary was a member of the Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, a wonderful homemaker and a past President of the "Church Women United." Mrs. Withers was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Grace Hospital School of Nursing. In 1951, she married her husband of sixty-six years and moved to Richmond and in 1990, they returned to the Staunton area.
Mrs. Withers was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving in addition to her husband, is a son, George "Ed" Withers, III and his wife Sophie Vytrac Withers of Audubon, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Nathan Withers, Chloe Withers, Grace Withers, and Olivia Withers.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor John M. Ward.
Burial will follow the service in Thornrose Cemetery.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to a local charity of one's choice.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
