Mary Clay (Simmons) Eavey, 99, widow of Raymond Archie Eavey, formerly of Elizabeth Miller Gardens, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehab Center.
Mrs. Eavey was born on January 27, 1919 in Head Waters, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Lucy (Armstrong) Simmons.
Mary was the oldest and a very active member of the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed her strawberry milkshakes, coloring, crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, quilting, corresponding with her pen pals, and writing poems.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Eavey was preceded in death by five brothers; and four sisters.
Surviving are two sons, H. Wesley Eavey and his wife Linda of Waynesboro and Gary Wayne Eavey of Staunton; three daughters, Judy D. Roberts and her husband Robert Bobby and Lucy E. Riley both of Staunton, and Diane Ricketson and her husband D.L. of Weyers Cave; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wesley Hugo Simmons of Crimora; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 in the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery by Pastor Galen Combs.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
