Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Martin, 79, widow of Douglas Scott Scotty Martin of 3 Bells Valley Road passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Martin was born on October 31, 1936 in Bells Valley, Virginia, one of eighteen children to the late Clain Allen, Sr. and Ida Mae (Patterson) Powell.
Mary was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Goshen. She worked for Jane Colby Sewing Factory and later retired in 2005 from Perdue, Inc. Following her retirement, Mary worked as a cook for Sarahs Burgers and Shakes in Craigsville. Mrs. Martin enjoyed sewing, riding along in the country side and celebrating all holidays, especially Christmas.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.
Surviving is a son, Gerald L. Moore and his wife Victoria of Staunton; three daughters, Jeanette E. Adkins and her husband Allen, and Brenda M. Groah all of Staunton and Candy L. Sprouse and her husband Calvin of Craigsville; seven grandchildren, Calvin Sprouse, Christopher Sprouse, Erica Flower, Jessica Rankin, Kristina Dodson, Aimee Zwart and Deric Zwart; seven great-grandchildren, Austin Turner, Willow Massie, Evelynn Rankin, Gabrielle Rankin, Rosalee Flower, Katlin Dodson and Joshua Dodson; a brother, Clain A. Powell, Jr. of Goshen; a sister, Lillie V. Cobb of Staunton; a special nephew, Wayne Powell and wife Shirley and their children, Danielle Hill and Lindsey Howard; a special niece, Carroll Powell;
and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Eric Brown.
Burial will follow in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Donnie Arnold, Dale Powell, Barry Arnold, J.T. Via, Jason Flower and Alex Rankin.
