Mary Catherine Lawhorne, 75, widow of William Grimm Lawhorne, Sr., of 1801Orange Street, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Lawhorne was born in Augusta County on November 20, 1937, a daughter of the late Herbert Henry and Betty (Fitzgerald) Nuckols.
Mary was a member of the Spring Valley Pentecostal Church. She retired from Western State Hospital in 1994 where she was employed as a nurses aide and in 2006 from Hollisters. Mrs. Lawhorne was a wonderful housewife, loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and her pet dogs. Mary was known by her family as The Rock and known by many as a Great Friend willing to always help others.
Mrs. Lawhorne was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving is a son, William G. Lawhorne, Jr. and his wife Gail of Greenville and a daughter, Pat Lawhorne of Staunton; two grandchildren, Mary Ellen Lawhorne and her friend, Doug Cline and Jessica Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren, Kaylynn Gardner and Madison Fitzgerald; a special niece, Teddy Painter and a life long friend, Gloria Gibson.
A celebration of life will be conducted from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
