Mary Ruth (Lawhorne) Combs, 66, formerly of Montgomery Ave, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Ms. Combs was born June 24, 1943 in Staunton, a daughter
of the late Joseph R., Sr. and Ruth (Wilmott) Lawhorne.
Mary retired in 1998 from the Western State Hospital as a CNA with over twenty years of service. She enjoyed playing bingo, the ocean and the outdoors. She loved the time she spent with her family and was known for her delicious sugar cookies that she would bake for her family. Mary will be remembered for her green thumb when it came to flower gardening and her love for Elvis Presley. She was Elvis number one fan.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Reed Lawhorne, Jr.
Surviving is a daughter, Donna M. Hilbert of St. Petersburg, FL; two sisters, Ann L. Riddle and Carol A. Biby; and a sister-in-law, Belva Lawhorne all of Staunton; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Derrick and Nicole Tabor; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Brenlie Tabor; and a number of nieces and nephew also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Gary T. Spradlin. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be her two grandsons, Jeremy Tabor and Derrick Tabor, Johnny Riddle, Michael W. Riddle, Michael J. Riddle, Joseph Lawhorne and Steven Lawhorne.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
