Marjorie Lorraine (Ames) Painter, 82, widow of Lester Lee Robert Bobby Painter of 15 Beaver Creek Road, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Painter was born July 9, 1931 in East Dubuque, IL, a daughter of the late David Ira and Sara Blanche (Bradley) Ames.
Marjorie was a member of Cherryvale United Methodist Church where she participated in Hearts \u0026 Hands Ministry. She was Valedictorian of East Dubuque High School Class of 1949 and during the 1970s she served as a troop leader for Boy Scouts Pack 30 and the Girl Scouts. Mrs. Painter was a survivor of colon cancer and enjoyed participating in the Relay for Life of Augusta County from 2006 to 2011. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, Beverly Lewis books, going to church and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Painter was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, who passed away in 1991, Mrs. Painter was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
Surviving are two daughters; Vickie Lee (Painter) Davis and Alison Jean Painter both of Staunton; two sons; Robert Glenn Painter and his wife Michele (Moyers) Painter of Staunton, and Ronald David Painter of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; Cara Moubray, Brandon Painter, Cassie Painter, Caitlyn Painter, Jeremy Davis, Samuel Davis and Ella Carter; six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Cherryvale United Methodist Church by Pastor Clayton Payne.
The family will receive friends following the service or other times at the residence.
