Marian Louise (Walker) Veney, 86, formerly of 427 N Market St., Staunton, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 2, 2016 at Colonial Heights Health Care Center, in Colonial Heights Virginia, after a long illness.
Mrs. Veney was born on August 14, 1929 to the late William Walker and Helen Elizabeth (Johnson) Walker.
Marian attended Morristown College in Morristown, Tennessee. She was an employee of Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia where she served for over thirty years as a Switchboard Operator, and retired in 1991 as Director of Student Services. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a long standing member of Augusta Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and published the weekly church bulletins. Marian was a recognized soloist and sang in many Staunton and Augusta County community choirs. She was a staunch community advocate, providing unwavering support to neighbors and friends.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her grandson, William Albert Veney II.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Ralph Meredith Veney of Laurel, Maryland, Marian Elizabeth Okoye and her husband John of Albuquerque, New Mexico, William A. Veney and his wife Annie of Staunton, Virginia, and Marietta M. Simpson and her husband Barry of Chester, Virginia; ten grandchildren, Antwan Minor, Chanta Smith, Brandon Simpson, Joslyn Veney, Patrick Simpson, Lelia Veney, Ashley Simpson, Matthew Veney, Adam Okoye, Daniel Okoye; nineteen great-grandchildren; a foster son, Erskine Jenkins of Knoxville Tennessee; a special cousin, Sheila Carr; and a host of friends and neighbors also survive.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Homegoing Celebration will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Turner and Rev. John Benson.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Adam Okoye, Daniel Okoye, Patrick Simpson, Joslyn Veney, Kenneth Frye, David Kier, Preston Carter, and Tommy D Crawford Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Veney and Brandon Simpson.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
