Marian Elizabeth (Curry) Cline, 92, of Staunton, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fishersville.
She was born in Augusta County, Virginia on November 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Earl Franklin and Lillian (Ray) Curry.
Marian graduated from Beverley Manor High School in 1947. Throughout high school, Marian played basketball for her high school team, where she developed a love and passion for the game.
Prior to retirement, Marian was a machinist at McQuay International (formerly Westinghouse) in Verona, for 32 years.
Marian cherished the companionship of her pets. She was happiest, when her and her pup (most recently Della) were outside working in the yard on the flower beds or sitting on the front porch watching the birds. She also loved taking trips to Colorado to visit her daughter and family in the mountains. In Colorado she continued her masterful work in her daughter's flower beds and used her magic bird power to summon all the hummingbirds to the deck, refilling the feeders at least once a day.
While Marian spent most days outside enjoying the flowers and the birds, she spent her evenings bowling. She was an avid bowler, bowling multiple nights per week for over thirty years. On Tuesday evenings, she bowled with Valley Merchants in a mixed league, Wednesdays she bowled in the Valley Lanes League, Thursday evenings she bowled in the Ladies Hilltop League, and Friday evenings were back with the mixed league. Marian was a member of the 600 Club at Valley Lanes in Harrisonburg.
Along with her parents, Marian is preceded in death by two brothers, James Earl Curry and Gene Raymond Curry, and daughter-in-law Loretta Elizabeth Cline.
She is survived by her children, Gary Gene Cline (Rebecca), Sandra Ruth (Cline) Carsten (Rick), David Lee Cline, and James Earl (Jimmy) Cline. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Bogart (Chris), Deanna Spracher (Ryan), Melanie Cline, Jamie Cline, Chad Garland, Mark Garland (Brittani), Brittany Houston and Krystal Parker; nine great grandchildren Teagan, Alex and Teddy Overby, Brynleigh Fisher, MacKenzie Bogart, and Jackson Garland, Bayleigh and Kohbey VanHoozer and Maverick Houston; a sister-in-law Lela (Curry) Alison; and special friend, Dania Balsley who was considered family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Thornrose Cemetery by Pastor Tim Feazell.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation and Legacy Hospice, for their compassion and care for both Marian and the family and visitors during this time.
