Margaret Pauline (Brubeck) Tootie Childress, 90, widow of Robert Lee Childress, of 29 Mt. Hermon Road, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Childress was born on November 14, 1927 in Newport, a daughter of the late Robert McFaddin and Lucy Donahue (Lamb) Brubeck.
Tootie was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, she was a homemaker and in her younger years she worked at Kroger and Reids grocery stores in Staunton. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, reading and her family was her life.
In addition to her husband of 43 years and her parents, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Mason, Fred, and Hunter Brubeck; and three sisters, Madalyn OGrady, Nina Bell Rosen, and Janet Brubeck.
Surviving are two sons, Scott Childress and his wife Teresa and Steve Childress and his wife Michelle, both of Fishersville; two daughters, Deborah C. Hanger and her husband David of Spottswood, and Kim C. Oliver and her husband Charlie of Staunton; nine grandchildren, Robyn Smith, Chris Childress, Chad Childress, Kelli Kneisel, Jennifer Allen, Michael Childress, Lauren Maddox, Brandon Childress, and Ana Childress; twelve great-grandchildren, Hunter, Carter, Allie, Kylee, Tucker, Chapman, Jackson, Jayce, Noelle, Dylan, Waylon and Raelynn; a brother, William Brubeck and his wife Sally of Middlebrook; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Helen Cash, Bessie Lotts and Mary Glenn Davis; a special caregiver, Danielle Dorsett; and her special companion, her beloved dog, Max.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Graveside Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Revs. Patrick Malphrus and Michael Snider.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Dr. Rob Marsh and his staff and also the staff of Augusta Health Foundation Hospice of the Shenandoah, for their loving kindness and care given to Mrs. Childress during her illness.
