Marcus Cowper "Mike" Gilbert, 88, husband of Dorothy Mae (Jordan) Gilbert, of Sandy Ridge Road, Waynesboro, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Staunton, Virginia on January 27, 1934, a son of the late Simon Jefferson Gilbert and Eva Mae (Harlow) Gilbert.

Mike was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Cherryvale United Methodist Church. He retired in 1993 from DuPont where he was employed as a mechanic. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed working in his garden and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gilbert; four brothers, Dr. Fulton J. Gilbert, Earl Kenneth Gilbert, Dr. Lowell H. Gilbert, and Dr. Edward W. Gilbert; and four sisters, Eleanor (Gilbert) VanGilder, Rhoda (Gilbert) York, Lorraine Ruth (Gilbert) Coffman Harlow, and Carleton Harper.

Mike was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 30 years, are two sons, Marc Gilbert and wife Vickie of Fishersville and Tim Branch of Schuyler, Virginia; two daughters, Beth Gilbert of Stuarts Draft and Tina Thompson and her husband David of Shipman, Virginia; ten grandchildren, Crystal and her husband Mark, Eric and his wife Brendi, Craig, Kourtney and her husband Ethan, Erika, Salena, Clayton and his wife Chelsey, Mason, T.J., and Harley; twelve great-grandchildren and a special niece and caregiver, Lori Caldwell.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 in Cherryvale United Methodist Church by Pastor Jonathan Greer.

Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
