Mamie (Starks) Meyers, 78, of 2425 Old Greenville Road, Staunton passed away Sunday, January 11, 2010 in University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Meyers was born January 29, 1931 in Troy, New York, a daughter of the late Ralph and Virginia (Dixon) Starks.
Mamie was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Folly Mills where she served as Senior Warden and vice-president of the Church Women United; she was active in the Outreach Lunch Program at Trinity Episcopal and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, she served on the Executive Committee of the Dioceses of Southwest Virginia, and a member of the Greenville Ruritan Club. One of Mamies most proud accomplishments was her training of Therapy Dogs which where used at Augusta Health, Waynesboro Public Schools and the Western State Hospital by those needing special assistance, she also attended Camp Dragonfly with her therapy dogs.
Mrs. Meyers is survived by the following family members and special friends, Hal I. Meyers of Staunton; Harold W. Meyers of New Hartford, NY, Peter E. Meyers of Lincoln, DE, Susan Griffin of Louisa, VA, Jackie A. Meyers of Fluvanna County, VA., Eric Meyers, Allyson Meyers and Nicholas Meyers all of New Hartford, NY, Sarah Meyers and Kenneth Meyers both of Lincoln DE, Francesca Giamminuti of Rome, Italy, Austin Bordleau of Chazy, NY, Deanna Massey and Edward Massey, II of Louisa, VA.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Folly Mills by Bishop Neff Powell and Father John F. Glover.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
