Malcolm Ellyott Rankin Craig, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Shenandoah Nursing Rehabilitation and Assisted Living in Fishersville.
Mr. Craig was born on December 9, 1936 in Takoma Park, Maryland, a son of the late Malcolm Ellyott Rankin Craig, Sr. and Dorothy Emma (Higgins) Craig Wright.
Malcolm was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church where he served in the United Methodist Men and he was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Seabee. Mr. Craig was retired as a highway inspector for Montgomery County, Maryland and was a member of the National Rifle Association where he served as an instructor. He enjoyed marksmanship, woodworking, mechanical work and farming.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Higgins (Craig) Cooper; and a son-in-law, William Clifton Denney.
Surviving is a son, Wade Rankin Craig of Tennessee; three daughters, Virginia Ann (Craig) Richardson of Wisconsin, Dorothy Jane (Craig) Matthews and her husband Scott of Maryland, and Amy Sue (Craig) Denney of Richmond; a brother, Don Charles Walter Craig and his wife Nita (Centers) Craig of Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Charles Evan Craig of Maryland, Justin James Pleus of Kentucky, Alissa Matthews Harris of California, Timothy Scott Matthews, Emily Joy Matthews, and Nicholas Scott Matthews, all of Maryland, Joshua Aaron Denney of South Carolina, William Noah Denney of Tennessee, and Samantha Denney George of Richmond; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Edward Rankin Craig, Scout Elizabeth Grace Craig, Isabelle Rae Potter, Addale Michele Pleus, Eleanor Louise Harris, and Aurelia Linda Denney.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at New Hope United Methodist Church.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the loving caregivers at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation and to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
