Obituary

Makenna Shaye Smith, 28, of Staunton passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at her residence.

She was born in Fishersville on July 11, 1997 the daughter of Morgan E. and Traci M. Smith.

Makenna was a 2015 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She loved fiercely and lived life to the fullest. Her beloved fur baby, “Echoboy”, held a special place in her heart and brought her endless joy. She found purpose in her nursing career, where she cared deeply for her residents, treating them with compassion and dignity. Never one to stop growing, she was working toward becoming a registered nurse, determined to continue making a difference in the lives of others.

She was the life of every party, with a personality that naturally drew people in. Whether she intended to or not, she often became the center of attention, filling every room with laughter, energy, and unforgettable memories. Makenna was fiercely competitive, always determined to win—especially at the pool table, where she proudly earned the title of “pool shark”.

Makenna loved spending time at the beach, listening to music, and embracing every moment life had to offer. She loved hard, worked hard, and lived with passion. Her niece and nephews meant the world to her, and she treasured every opportunity to love, encourage, and make memories with them.

She cared deeply about the people in her life and wasn't afraid to hold those she loved accountable because she wanted the best for them. Her strength, loyalty, and unwavering heart left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her love, laughter, determination, and vibrant spirit will be remembered always and deeply missed.

Makenna was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles Smith; and great-grandparents, Eugene and Maxine Smith, Arlof and Edith Withrow, and Raymond and Elizabeth Simmons and family friend, Hayley Comer.

Surviving in addition to her parents and her fur baby, “Echoboy”, she is survived by her sisters, Kara Smith (Malcolm Kier), Kori Smith (Tyrese Haliburton), and Kinley Smith (Charles Haynes); grandmothers, Sharon Simmons and Cynthia André; niece and nephews, Lilli Kier, Jace Johnson, and Kaleb Johnson; uncles and aunts, Kevin Simmons, Douglas and Jane Andre, and John and Yolanda Smith; numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and other family members; special childhood and family friends, Shamya Harrison, LeAnn Batton, Brooklynn Sandridge, and Sam Glick.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory with a Celebration of Life following at 5:30 p.m.
