Madeline (Meeks) Hensley, 82, wife of John Clarence Hensley formerly of Little Bear Path passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 in Envoy of Staunton.
Mrs. Hensley was born on February 27, 1933 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Oliver and Frances (Floyd) Meeks.
Mrs. Hensley was an active member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and established and ran the Church library for many years. Madeline was employed with Waynesboro Community Hospital prior to retirement, she enjoyed growing flowers and especially African Violets.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hensley was preceded in death by an uncle and aunt, who raised her, Ernest, Sr. and Lillie Floyd; her step-mother, Margaret Meeks; two sisters, Hazel I. Shepard and Lillie Meeks; a half-brother, P.J. Meeks; a half-sister, Elaine; a cousin, Peggy Via and close neighbors and friends, Joe and Alma Workman.
Mrs. Hensley was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 63 years are three sons, Lewis W. Hensley of Staunton, Hugh P. Hensley and his wife Lynda of Crewe, VA and Dewey W. Hensley and his wife Laurie of Stuarts Draft; five grandchildren, Jamie Hensley, Jason Hensley, Joshua Hensley, Sarah Canafax and Ian Hensley; ten great-grandchildren; five half-brothers, Jesse Meeks, Ronnie Meeks, John Meeks, Jimmy Meeks and Michael Meeks; special cousins with whom she was raised with, Dot Doyle, Betty Jones, Ernest Floyd, Jr. and Elsie Crawford and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 in West Waynesboro Church of Christ by Rev. Chad Grondin.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jamie, Jason, Joshua, Ian and Greyson Hensley.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
